Parenting starts at home and shows up in the community.
Our Family Service Learning program empowers parents to identify and address issues in their larger community. Parents come together with their neighbors and their children to create and lead projects, find support through community partnerships, and ultimately weave stronger community connections.
Support a parent. Empower a child. Uplift a generation.
By building upon family-to-family social networks, parents can:
create positive change in their community, from the inside out
gain employability skills and social capital
develop a stronger belief in their ability to succeed in specific situations or accomplish a task
Examples of parent-driven projects from our Family Service Learning program include:
creating children’s playgroups in a community church
anti-litter campaigns and community clean-ups
community gardens and food justice advocacy
Supporting parent-driven goals and priorities
Our Family Service Learning program might be a good fit for you if:
you want to inspire families to work together for positive change in your neighborhood
you are a natural leader looking to share your ideas with like-minded parents
you want to work hand in hand with your children and other parents to model leadership
Parents involved in our Family Service Learning program first build relationships with other families in the program before identifying needs in their community. Then, parents align to address the issue and approach key partners in the neighborhood to make change.
